The Vineyards

The Rutherglen Region is home to 24 cellar doors and produces some of the richest wines in the world, notably its unique Muscat and Tokay. Big cellaring reds inclusive of Durif and Shiraz also form the source for salubrious vintage and tawny ports. Many other varietals are to be found, having benefited from the skills applied by the vignerons adding further to the depth and diversity of the Region, examples being Marsanne, Riesling and fully flavoursome Sparkling Shiraz.

Wine making has a 150 year history in the Region which continues to be enhanced by today's winemakers some of which are now the 4th, 5th or 6th generation at many of the family owned and run wineries. The cellar doors provide a warm, friendly and welcoming atmosphere all year round not only for tastings but also special dinners and functions among the vines and in the barrel rooms featuring mouth watering local produce and older vintages.

Many have either restaurant/café facilities or are able to provide produce hampers by arrangement. (Further detail refer to the links page).
